Zenith & Baume et Mercier Establish Racing Connections

Zenith’s el Primero chronograph has been unique for being the only wristwatch chronograph able to record and display an accuracy to within a 10th of a second. As in Omega, the long-term Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games, the ability to record split second variations between competitors is essential when its the best vs the best.

Were the 1960’s the romantic golden age of motor racing?

Zenith are sponsoring Erik Comas, who, after winning 7 motor racing titles, now competes in historic car competition. He drives a classic Lancia Stratos, a car that dominated the sport 40 years ago. No doubt remembered fondly alongside other classics such as the Saab 90/92 and even the Mini!

“CSX2000 is the first Shelby Cobra ever built and quite possibly the most valuable American sports car in the world. This 1962 Cobra has been owned by Carroll Shelby personally since it was built and is in “survivor” condition. The car still has its original four speed Ford 260 c.i.d. engine, brakes, interior and body. As this Shelby was used in various magazine stories when the Cobra was introduced, it has been painted several different times.”

A similar period, but across the pond, in 1965 Carroll Shelby was making history in the AC Cobra (a British built car). Baume & Mercier are marking the 50th anniversary with two limited edition Capeland timepieces named after the Cobra, displaying the Cobra snake logo on their second hand.
